Egg Color: Blue Egg Layer- Medium Sized Egg--- WE HAVE NO RECESSIVE WHITE IN THIS LINEAGE- These also produce a lot of eggs-- I have several hens producing over 250 eggs a year at 2 years of age.
BLUE EGG LAYER!! We worked hard to selectively breed for blue egg layers. These are a lovely addition to any flock. They are autosexing, which means that at hatch, we can determine the gender of pullets and cockerels.
These curious little creatures are so friendly--- I have some that follow me around when their name is called. These do well in a coop or out free-ranging.
There are rumors about how flighty these can be-- I find them to be a sweet and chill variety, but when startled- due to their ability to fly-- they can get airborne. They do have the ability to take flight, similar to a leghorn. We have trained ours on poultry netting. Now and then, we have one that will like the other side of the fence. But, considering how easily they could get out.. they rarely do. They like to stay with the rooster in their flock.
We have a few girls who like to go broody but are easily broken. I move the girls off the nest, and after a few days, they are done. They may get a bit vocal but are not aggressive at all. Again, they are very sweet and chill.
We had tge opportunity to add some of Christine Simpson's Cream Legbars. This is an unrelated line to what was imported by Green Fire Farms. We feel super blessed because they are gorgeous. The only side note to us adding these to our flock is that the pullets occasionally will have some hyper phenomenalism (reddish blonde feathering in crest). But her line added beautiful blue eggs and those daffy duck yellow legs. Our goal with all our breeds is to maintain integrity and standards, thus breeding for improvement in the line.
Cream Legbars are a balancing act. The only proposed disqualification of the breed is being crestless- a crest is that cute poof of feathers behind their crests. In that lies a bit of dilemma—proposed standard calls for roosters to have a straight comb. But- it is tough to breed a rooster with a proper crest and straight comb.
I believe in transparency and being honest about our flock- we get a few each season that lack a crest- we work hard to find that balance in our breeding to prevent this- but it does happen. We have two main breeding pens- working on double crests in our hens and proper combs in our roosters. Thus, the goal is to produce a beautiful rooster and hen with proper crests worthy of the cream legbar name. But- in that effort- a rarity can occur.
We are focused on breed improvement, maintaining a true cream legbar feather colorations, and yellow leg and feet.
